August 29th, 2009Perfume Bottles And Fragrances
August 29th, 2009The very word perfume creates a whiff of fragrance in the surroundings. It fills and mesmerizes the senses with a wonderful sensation and feeling. Perfumes have always attracted mankind and how a bottle of perfume is created is a mystery even in this era and age! The art of perfume making is a secret and the selected perfumes are created by specialists who never divulge the ingredients of it. This makes each bottle of perfume unique.
The perfume making art was introduced in Egypt and Mesopotamia somewhere in the 2nd millennium BC. Originally perfume was made from spices like almonds, coriander and bergamot along with various other herbs. Flowers were not used in those days.
A Persian doctor and chemist discovered that perfume could be made from flowers too. He started making perfume with roses and rose water was a big favorite immediately. Once introduced, rose water was being used extensively and is still used.
With the advancement in the perfume making industry and mass production and consumption, there has been a sea change in the entire procedure of perfume making. It has now become a mechanical job no doubt but still needs expertise.
Commercial manufacturers keep their secrets of making perfume close to their hearts and don`t like to divulge it. However it is open secret that perfume is derived from plants, animals and other natural ways. Among the plants resins, seeds, leaves, fruits, and flowers are used. In the animals` category civet, musk and honey comb may be used. In the modern era genetically induced plants are also being used to make perfumes by the perfume manufacturers.
The manufacturers now days use many synthetic sources like chemicals prepared in labs to make perfume and these perfumes are quite a hit among the users.
Although the basic method of producing perfume is the same for all perfumes various manufacturers adopt slightly different style of manufacturing it according their individual style and choice.
Before you start making perfume you need to understand the composition of the perfume oil. They have been classified into four categories according to the role played by them. These scents are found in the different notes like the top, base or the middle according to the supporting ingredients.
They are the following: fixatives, modifiers, blenders and primary scents.
The fragrance oil has to be mixed with ethyl alcohol and water in special containers for a minimum of two weeks and all sediments are to be filtered off carefully. Nowadays the usual style is to use the base for it because of the obvious reasons instead of extracting perfumes from the `ground ups`.
There are quite a few types of oils mixed in a perfume. Once the final product is ready it is very difficult to know about its separate compositions. It is very difficult to break up the perfume and find its ingredients. However the nature of the perfume can be understood by the experts by using reverse technology. But this is also useful only if the perfume is not too much complicated in formation. A lot depends on the equipment that is put into use. Competitors and discerning consumers use it to reveal the formula used in the making of the perfume.
Continuous research is always being carried on in the perfume industry and experts keep experimenting and devising new ways of making perfume. Efforts are made to make each bottle unique, each perfume unique and the secrecy that is maintained by all concerned is amazing.
Perfume bottle that you have is unique and a lot of hard work has gone into it. Don`t waste it, but use it with love and care in honor of the care that has gone into it!
Perfume Short Info
August 28th, 2009The precise formulas of commercial perfumes are kept secret. Even if they were widely published, they would be dominated by such complex chemical procedures and ingredients that they would be of little use in providing a useful description of the experience of a scent. Nonetheless, connoisseurs of perfume can become extremely skillful at identifying components and origins of scents in the same manner as wine experts .
The most practical way to start describing a perfume is according to its concentration level, the family it belongs to, and the notes of the scent, which all affect the overall impression of a perfume from first application to the last lingering hint of scent.
Concentration levels
Perfume oil is necessarily diluted with a solvent because undiluted oils (natural or synthetic) contain high concentrations of volatile components that will likely result in allergic reactions and possibly injury when applied directly to skin or clothing.
By far the most common solvent for perfume oil dilution is ethanol or a mixture of ethanol and water. Perfume oil can also be diluted by means of neutral-smelling lipids such as jojoba, fractionated coconut oil or wax.
As the percentage of aromatic compounds decreases, so does the intensity and longevity of the scent created. Different perfumeries or perfume houses assign different amounts of oils to each of their perfumes. Therefore, although the oil concentration of a perfume in eau de parfum (EDP) dilution will necessarily be higher than the same perfume in eau de toilette (EDT) form within the same range, the actual amounts can vary between perfume houses. An EDT from one house may be stronger than an EDP from another.
Furthermore, some fragrances with the same product name but having a different concentration name may not only differ in their dilutions, but actually use different perfume oil mixtures altogether. In some cases, words such as “extrême” or “concentrée” appended to fragrance names might indicate completely different fragrances that relates only because of a similar perfume accord. An instance to this would be Chanel‘s Pour Monsieur and Pour Monsieur Concentrée.
For instance, in order to make the EDT version of a fragrance brighter and fresher than its EDP, the EDT oil may be “tweaked” to contain slightly more top notes or less base notes.
Olfactive families
Grouping perfumes, like any taxonomy, can never be a completely objective or final process. Many fragrances contain aspects of different families. Even a perfume designated as “single flower”, however subtle, will have undertones of other aromatics. “True” unitary scents can rarely be found in perfumes as it requires the perfume to exist only as a singular aromatic material.
Classification by olfactive family is a starting point for a description of a perfume, but it cannot by itself denote the specific characteristic of that perfume.
New York City Savors Couture Fashion Week
August 28th, 2009Event producer Andres Aquino presented the prestigious award to Mr. Khansa on the evening of September 9 before an audience of international press and enthusiastic fashionistas. The presentation followed the designer’s fashion show which presented his latest collection of breathtaking couture designs done in opulent fabrics with lavish embellishments, each piece more dazzling than the last.
Tani Keller of Germany was named “Most Innovative Fashion Designer” in recognition of her fine leather couture collection for Spring 2006 entitled “Garden of Eden.” Each piece was an original couture creation, a feast for the eyes.
The 3-day event showed the latest collections of a select group of international as well as American designers, many presenting in New York for the first time. For a number of designers for whom English is not their first language, challenges included not only the hectic pace of putting on a fashion show, but also dealing with cultural differences and the use of interpreters. Once the makeup was in place, hair tousled just so, gowns slipped on, and models lined up, the music began to pulse, the lights went up, and the first model strode onto the catwalk. Excitement built as
the cameras began to click and the designers’ creations emerged. Couture had
landed in New York with a splash from many foreign lands.
The collections had names reflecting the creative philosophies and moods of the designers.
From Latvia Anna Osmushkina presented “Heaven”, weightless designs in natural fabrics hand-woven using an original technology. Embellishments in Swarovski and Kornelius precious stones, ostrich feathers, and natural furs give added dimension and luxury. Anna’s color palette is as airy as the dawn in shades of gold, bronze, rose, sky blue and white. Handcrafted shawls and capes completed a number of the graceful feminine ensembles
Galina Dacheva from Bulgaria showed her “Timeless Fashion Collection” based on the ancient craft of knitting but jazzed revved up to a modern sensibility. The collection is an amalgam of both fashion and history.
The stunning collection from Payal Jain of India was entitled simply “Blanc”, designs fit for a princess. Payal was inspired by the mysterious weaves of the East and the structure of the West. A seemingly simple yet actually complex texturization. Exotic silk weaves are sculpted into flowing
silhouettes with tone on tone treatments.
Lourdes Libman presented her “Unequally Blue” collection, a combination of
tropical flavor from her native Dominican Republic and sophisticated European flair.
The Russian designer contingent presented strong collections from three gifted designers:
- Galit Couture, coming to New York from Russia via Israel, showed a group of beautiful fairy-tale bridal gowns. These dream-like creations are for the bride who wants to be the “Belle of the Ball” making an unforgettable entrance on her special day.
- Routa’s designs are visual poetry brought to life with a unique perspective on fabric and style.
- Lilia Berzon presented a group of sensuous evening designs characterized by an innovative use of fabrics and structural elements.
Among the American designers taking part in Couture Fashion Week was Philadelphia-based Dah-veese whose striking “urban couture” collection features the juxtaposition of signature denim with unexpected fabric combinations: fine silk organza, silk dupioni, silk taffeta, silk linen and cotton with an emphasis on angles, dimension, depth and texture.
“We have already received a large number of requests from designers around the world as well as sponsors interested in participating in next season’s fashion shows”, notes producer Andres Aquino. “So we expect this event to continue to grow at a fast pace and to continue to serve as the most important platform to present couture fashion in New York.”
Look like a celebrity this summer!
August 28th, 2009Every celebrity out there knows the real value of a pair of designer sunglasses. Whether it’s to hide the effects of a late night out on the town or an effort to blend in on the street, a pair of quality sunglasses is absolutely indispensable. We’ve seen a lot of trends come and go, but a great pair of sunglasses will always transcend the passing fads of the day.
With the summer just around the corner, we have begun our fashion trend spotting efforts for 2006. Like years passed, celebrities are on the forefront of eyewear fashion. One of my favorite pastimes is to monitor the fashion trends of my favorite celebrities. As with last season, big sunglasses are all the rage for the ladies. God bless you, Jackie O!
Carmen Electra is one of my favorite celebrities, and one of the most stylish women in entertainment. While I could do without another season of her dreadful “reality” television show, I am dying to get my hands on a pair of the Missoni shades she was recently spotted in. They are oversized and oh-so-glamorous!
Catherine Zeta-Jones may have a thing for old, outdated actors but her fashion sense is as fresh as a spring breeze. I recently saw her sporting a pair of Dolce & Gabbana glasses that were out of this world! I suspect they were the utterly amazing “4005″ model. They were black, with the D&G logo designed into the arms of the glasses. The shades are big, bold, and beautiful!
Heidi Klum, our favorite supermodel and partygirl, has incredible fashion sense. I saw a picture of her earlier this week wearing a classic pair of Aviator shades. While a number of people in the fashion industry have been lamenting the prevalence of Aviator shades, I couldn’t imagine a world without them. Heidi was wearing a pair made by Ray Ban, and they were absolutely fabulous!
Speaking of partygirls, how could I go on without mentioning Paris Hilton? I adore Paris. She may not be taken seriously as an actress or singer, but she reigns supreme over the fashion world. She was recently spotted wearing a pair of the new Oakley glasses for women. That’s right, kids. Oakley just launched a new line of shades exclusively for women, and they are the must-have item for this fashion year. Believe the Hype!

Get Red Carpet Glam Without Paying Designer Prices
August 27th, 2009Some say getting red carpet glam is close to impossible on a tight budget. But it actually can be quite simple if you know exactly how to stretch your wardrobe dollars.
It’s trendy to try to get a good deal and the savviest shoppers take pride in paying next to nothing for their fashion finds. Whether you’re getting ready for a wedding or high school prom, or just want to freshen your wardrobe, here are some tips to help you create your own personal style on a budget.
* Give online auctions a try. Creating your personal style is easier with unique items like those being auctioned online. You’ll come across many hard-to-find items at hard-to-beat prices.
* Plan ahead. Scour sales racks for traditionally expensive items like cashmere or in-vogue bathing suits. Shop for winter items in April and summer items in September. End-of-season sales yield great buys on pieces you’ll wear for years.
* Mix and match. Mix high-end pieces with inexpensive items. Cheap and steep easily go together to help create a unique, personalized style.
* Accessorize. This is the single most important part of completing your unique style. An impressive handbag, stunning brooch or striking shoe can dial up any outfit. And these extra touches don’t have to cost a fortune.
Just ask Star Jones Reynolds, co-host of ABC’s “The View” and red carpet fashion correspondent for E! this past awards season. Jones Reynolds is renowned for her fashion-at-a-value sensibility and has been mixing designer pieces and inexpensive items for a long time. In fact, on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars, she paired a couture evening gown with $20 shoes. The gown was by revered designer Richard Tyler. The shoes? They were from her very own Starlet Spring Collection available only at Payless, proving that you can get glamorous red carpet fashion for less.
Payless is a smart place to scout for inexpensive accessories for any occasion, said Jones Reynolds. The Starlet Spring Collection boasts all the top dress footwear trends of the season for under $25 a pair, including slides, T- and ankle-straps, embellishments like bows, brooches and jewels, and the hottest colors of the season, including metallics and colored foils.
Keeping these tips in mind will help you maximize your style from head to toe – without maxing out your credit cards.
